When we sat down with Michael Nov, co-founder of Prime Security, it was clear from the start that his passion lies in solving one of cybersecurity’s longest-standing bottlenecks: the manual nature of security design.
“Security design is one of the last areas still done fully manually by security professionals,” Michael explained. “For decades, it’s been about the security engineer servicing the developer, trying to build safer systems without slowing velocity. With the rise of LLMs, we saw a real opportunity to change that.”
Building from Experience
Before launching Prime Security, Michael and his team had spent years working in startups of all sizes. Those experiences shaped their approach.
“Know who you’re building with. Build the right team to solve the problem. And keep shaping it as you go. Problems don’t sell themselves; people sell the solution,” he said.
Growth and Validation
Over the past year, Prime Security has experienced exciting growth. But for Michael, the real highlight wasn’t just hitting milestones. It was seeing the impact on customers.
“I’m most proud of serving our customers and getting validation that we’re solving a real pain point. It’s amazing to see how our AI-enabled tools can truly help developers,” he shared.
The Shift from Application Security to Product Security
One of the biggest trends Michael has noticed is a strategic shift in how organisations approach security.
“We’re hearing more and more about the move from application security to product security,” he said. “Security architecture and design can’t be siloed anymore. We’re seeing application security, security architecture, and infrastructure security all come together under one umbrella: product security.”
The Year Ahead
Looking to the future, Michael is energised by the role AI will play in how products are built.
“AI is changing the development process entirely. That creates both new challenges and opportunities for security teams,” he noted.
Culture Comes First
For aspiring founders, Michael had simple but powerful advice:
“Understand the culture you want to build, and find people who fit it.”
As for what’s next, Prime Security is making the most of industry events like Black Hat.
“It’s a great chance to catch up with friends, meet new people, and share what we’ve been working on,” Michael said.
From redefining security design with AI to championing a shift towards holistic product security, Prime Security is positioning itself at the forefront of the next wave in cybersecurity innovation.
